Weightlifting for beginners

A 6 week course to introduce you to the two movements of the sport the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. It also covers essential supporting movements including squats, push and pulls and specific weightlifting exercises.

It is a technical skill based course assuming no previous knowledge and starting with the basics. No experience is needed and everyone is welcome to come and learn.

Groups are kept small, a maximum of 6, so the coaching quality can be kept high and there is plenty of chance to practice and ask questions in a fun and safe environment.

What do the sessions look like?

Every session starts with a warm up to prepare the body and mind for weightlifting. This includes games and activities to help develop mobility, co-ordination, balance, stability and specific weightlifting skills.

The main block of each session will be focused on technical work of the lifts.

We also include accessory exercises that support Weightlifting.

This is a technical course, most of the movement will be done with a dowel or a light technique bar. It is not intended to replace your current resistance training program and will not interfere with it. It is a skill based course and wouldn’t meet the guidelines set out by the government guidelines for resistance training.
